Procedural Aluminium – Blender Material

Brushed, polished and spun aluminium in one procedural material

A clean procedural aluminium material for Blender with three ready-made finishes: Brushed, Polished and Spun. It is built entirely from shader nodes, so there are no image textures to manage, and it runs on object coordinates, so it works without UVs.

All three presets share one control group. The gallery shows Brushed (straight grain, Roughness 0.23, Anisotropy 0.65), Polished (Roughness 0.055 with almost no grain or relief) and Spun (circular machining rings, Roughness 0.19, Anisotropy 0.7), each on the included 20 cm sample cylinder.

Features:

  • One Aluminium – Controls node group shared by the Brushed, Polished and Spun presets
  • Tint, Roughness (from polished to satin) and Grain Contrast for the overall finish
  • Anisotropy for directional, brushed-metal reflections, best seen in Cycles
  • Spun switches the grain from straight brushing to circular machining rings, and Brush Angle rotates the straight grain
  • Grain Density and Streak Length set how fine and how long the grain is, plus Scale and Seed for the overall pattern
  • Micro Relief in micrometers for subtle bump detail, or 0 to turn it off
  • Grain, Roughness, Base Color and Normal outputs for custom shading or baking
  • The three materials and the control group are marked as assets, ready for the Asset Browser

How to use it:

  1. Append the material with File > Append > Material > Aluminium – Brushed, Polished or Spun, or drag it from the Asset Browser.
  2. Apply your object’s scale (Ctrl + A > Scale). Sizes are in meters at Scale 1, so no UVs are needed.
  3. Adjust the Aluminium – Controls group in the Shading workspace. Spun rings are centered on the object’s local Z axis.
  4. For game engines, bake the material on your final UV-mapped model, because procedural nodes do not export through FBX or OBJ.

Perfect for:

  • Product renders, gadgets and appliances
  • Cans, caps, knobs, cookware and machined parts
  • Hard-surface, sci-fi and industrial models
  • Close-up renders where the grain and reflections need to read

Need a worn or rusty metal instead? Try Damaged Dark Steel or Super Rusty Metal.

Included Files:

  • Blender project (.blend) with the Brushed, Polished and Spun materials and their shared node group
  • A 20 cm sample cylinder and a sample sphere, each with a camera and softbox lighting, no HDRI needed
  • Fully procedural, with no image textures or external files
  • Created in Blender 5.2
