Aged dark steel with scratches, patina and worn edges
A battle-worn steel material for Blender: fine scratches and deeper gouges, a dark patina, small pits and hammer marks, and bright worn metal along the edges of your model. It runs on object coordinates, so it works without UVs.
The scratches come from a custom scratch mask packed inside the .blend, while the patina, pitting, hammering and edge wear are procedural. The gallery shows the default look, then Heavy Wear (Edge Wear 1.0, Wear Width 6 mm, Patina Amount 0.8, Gouge Amount 0.55) and Light Patina (Patina Amount 0.12, Scratch Amount 0.6, Roughness 0.24).
Features:
- One Damaged Steel – Controls node group with the controls sorted into Metal and Patina, Scratches, Edge Wear and Surface Detail
- Steel Color, Worn Metal Color and Patina Color, with Patina Amount and Roughness for the base finish
- Scratch Amount, Scratch Contrast and Scratch Size (30 cm per repeat by default), plus Scratch Direction to rotate them
- Scratch Depth (mm) and Gouge Amount for shallow cuts and deeper scores, using bump shading
- Automatic edge wear in Cycles with Edge Wear and Wear Width (mm), plus Curvature Boost for rounded shapes
- An Extra Wear Mask input for painted or baked wear when you want exact control
- Pitting and Hammering for small surface imperfections, plus Scale and Seed for the overall pattern
- Wear Mask and Scratch Mask outputs for further customization
- The material and the node group are marked as assets, ready for the Asset Browser
How to use it:
- Append the material with File > Append > Material > Damaged Steel, or drag it from the Asset Browser.
- Apply your object’s scale (Ctrl + A > Scale). Sizes are in meters, so no UVs are needed.
- Render in Cycles to get the automatic edge wear, and adjust Edge Wear and Wear Width to suit your model.
- In Eevee, connect a painted or baked mask to Extra Wear Mask to place the wear yourself.
Perfect for:
- Shields, armor and weapons
- Old machinery, tools and industrial props
- Sci-fi and post-apocalyptic hard-surface models
- Game assets and close-up renders that need believable wear
